Testing of Callus Formation Strength after Bone Fracture Healing for Rats
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this study, callus formation strengths of the rat femurs are examined after bone fracture healing using the computer aided finite element methods. The rat femurs are modeled using computed tomography (CT) images using both MIMICS R12 and GEOMAGIC software for finite element applications for which ANSYS Workbench is employed. The mechanical properties of rat femurs are obtained using the three-point-bending tests and input to the computer based finite element modeling processes. These rats are subjected to the traumatic brain injury (TBI+) previously and their femurs were isolated from the whole body and fractured experimentally. The finite element based results are compared with the three-pointbending test ones.

Low dose of propranolol does not affect rat osteotomy healing and callus strength
Experimental studies suggest that the β-blocker propranolol stimulates bone formation but little work has investigated its effect on fracture healing. In this study, we examined if a low dose of propranolol, previously shown to be preventive against bone loss in rats, improves bone repair. Female Wistar rats were injected with saline or propranolol (0.1 mg/kg/day) (n = 20/group), 5 days a week ...
متن کاملEffect of Cervus and Cucumis Peptides on Osteoblast Activity and Fracture Healing in Osteoporotic Bone
Osteoporosis is associated with delayed and/or reduced fracture healing. As cervus and cucumis are the traditional Chinese treatments for rheumatoid arthritis, we investigated the effect of supplementation of these peptides (CCP) on bone fracture healing in ovariectomized (OVX) osteoporotic rats in vitro and in vivo. CCP enhanced osteoblast proliferation and increased alkaline phosphatase activ...
متن کاملAGE ALTERS mRNA GENE EXPRESSION IN THE FRACTURE CALLUSOF RATS BY MICROARRAY ANALYSIS
INTRODUCTION: The time required for bridging callus formation following femoral fracture increases with age in the rat (1). While young, 6-week-old rats form bridging callus by 4 weeks after fracture, adult, 26-week-old rats require 10 weeks, and older, 52-week-old rats need in excess of 26 weeks (1). Despite this increased time to healing with age, there was no increase in the time of expressi...
متن کاملLow-magnitude high-frequency vibration accelerates callus formation, mineralization, and fracture healing in rats.
Fracture healing is a biological regenerative process that follows a well-orchestrated sequence. Most healing is uneventful and enhancement of normal fracture healing is not commonly done, although it is clinically important in the recovery and regain of functions after fracture. This study investigated the osteogenic effect of low-magnitude high-frequency vibration (LMHFV, 35 Hz, 0.3 g) on the...
متن کاملEffect of soft-tissue attachment on tibial fracture healing in rats.
PURPOSE To compare tibial fracture healing in rats with or without soft-tissue attachment. METHODS The left tibias of 30 Wistar rats were osteotomised and equally randomised into 3 groups. In the avascular segmental fracture group, an 8-mm bone segment were first removed and then immediately put back. In the vascular segmental fracture group, the 8-mm bone segment was not displaced, with peri...
